FAQ

Do you offer online yoga and meditation classes?

Yes!  EVERY yoga or meditation class on the Moonflower Yoga schedule is currently offered online via Zoom with the exception of the Tuesday night Candlelight Restorative class.   Click on the “Descriptions” tab for additional information about each class.

Is the studio open for in-person classes?

The Moonflower Yoga studio doors are currently open for specific HYBRID yoga classes where a maximum of 4 students can attend in person while simultaneously there will be a Zoom class for those who prefer to practice at home or live geographically away from the studio.  If you are interested in attending one of these hybrid yoga classes in person, please click on the “Descriptions” tab above which has very important information about how the hybrid classes work.  NO walk ins will be accepted.

I am new to Zoom.  What do I need to do to attend an online Zoom class and can you provide me some tips on how to use Zoom?

– You need to download the free Zoom app.   You can download it to your computer or a mobile device, whichever you prefer.   A desktop or laptop screen is usually easier to see because it is larger.

– Select the online class you would like to attend from the Schedule tab above by double clicking on the class title.  From there, just follow the simple registration and payment steps via PayPal.  You do NOT need a PayPal account!  PayPal securely handles the financial transaction and accepts all major credit cards.  You must register for this class no later than 60 minutes before class time.   After you have purchased the class, you will be sent a Zoom meeting invitation link.  This invitation email is important because you will need the hyperlink contained in the invitation to join the class.

– Approximately 10 minutes before the scheduled class time, you should double click on the “Join Zoom Meeting” hyperlink in your Zoom email invitation.   This important step will take you into the “classroom” setting.   Select “start audio” once you are in the room.   Click on anything that is red with a line through it (a microphone, a camera) to deactivate these locks so you can hear audio and see the “classroom” setting.   You can deactivate these by touching that lock with your finger if you are using a mobile device or clicking on these red locks with your mouse.

– In the period of time after you join the class and before the class begins, you will have an opportunity to chat with the other attendees, as well as the Moonflower Yoga teacher. If you have any questions of the instructor, this is a great way to have your questions or concerns answered.

– Once the class is ready to begin, you will be “muted” so that only the instructor can be heard.  Just follow along and enjoy the class.  If you need to speak with the instructor during the class, you can “unmute” yourself by clicking on the red microphone with a line through it and then speak to the instructor.

– Remember to always listen to your body and only move in a way that feels right for you.  You may wish to have a blanket or towel or pillow near your yoga mat for use during the class.  If you have a yoga block that might be helpful for certain poses.   If you have a yoga strap, have that handy.  If you do not have a yoga strap, a bathrobe tie, an unused men’s tie, or a large, rolled blanket could be substituted.  Moonflower Yoga also sells great Huggermugger yoga products for your home practice and curbside pickup is available.  Scroll down for further info on curbside pickup or click on the “Products” tab above.

– At the end of the class, you can “unmute” yourself and ask questions or provide feedback, as you speak with the other attendees and the instructor.

Do you have curbside pickup?

Yes!  Moonflower Yoga is offering curbside pick up of yoga merchandise such as yoga mats, yoga blocks, yoga straps, bolsters, and blankets from the studio parking lot in the rear of the building.  We also sell wonderful Young Living essential oils and aromatherapy jewelry from AAOTE, as well as our super soft, signature t-shirts and fleece hoodies.  All of these are available for curbside pickup in the Moonflower Yoga parking lot, where your merchandise will be placed in the trunk of your car.  We do touchless purchasing using PayPal, and you do NOT need a PayPal account.   Just send an email to moonfloweryoga@optimum.net advising which items you would like, as well as a phone number where we can reach you, and we will be happy to help you.

Where are you located?

Moonflower Yoga is at 2093 Bellmore Avenue, at the corner of Wilson Avenue, in the town of Bellmore. We are in Nassau County on the south shore of Long Island. The studio is just 2 short traffic lights north of the Sunrise Highway and we are very close to the Bellmore LIRR train station. Click on the “About Us” tab to see a picture of the building.

I’m attending an online Zoom yoga class.  What props should I have available?

If you are attending an online yoga class, you should have a yoga mat.  The yoga mat gives you stability for standing poses, and it provides cushioning for poses on the ground.   Moonflower Yoga sells great yoga mats from Huggermugger, rated one of the top 3 best yoga suppliers in the US, and curbside pickup at the Moonflower Yoga studio is available for prop purchases.  You may also wish to have a folded blanket, or a folded towel, or a pillow near your yoga mat for cushioning for certain poses.  Yoga blocks are a great tool.  If you do not have a yoga block, you can purchase a great quality yoga block made by Huggermugger with curbside pickup at Moonflower Yoga.  A yoga strap is helpful, but you can substitute a bathrobe tie, or an unused men’s tie, or a large rolled blanket as an alternate prop.

What should I wear to class?

Wear pants with an elastic waist so you can be comfortable as you move. A t-shirt or any comfortable shirt top is fine.  You do NOT wear shoes or socks in a yoga class.

I have never tried yoga before. Which classes should I consider?

We have a great variety of classes for beginners or for those looking for a gentle yoga practice. Not all beginner classes have the word “beginner” in the title, and there are lots of fabulous classes from which you can choose.   Below are some online class suggestions for beginners or those seeking a gentler practice.  You can also look for the “(B)” symbol next to the class title on the Schedule tab:

I am a senior. Can I practice yoga?

Yes, provided your doctor is okay having you try a yoga class. We have students ranging in age from 8 years old to 85 years old! We always emphasize in our classes that you must listen to your body and move in a way that is comfortable for you. If while moving you feel any pain, you should immediately stop and advise the instructor. There are modifications available.  If you cannot get to the ground to practice yoga, try the Chair Yoga classes on the schedule.  There are online chair yoga classes on Tuesday at 12 noon with Nancy or Thursdays at 12 noon with Vicky.   Another great online class to consider, which can be done from a chair or reclining, is the Monday 7 PM Relax and De-Stress with Guided Meditation class.

I’m pregnant. Can I practice yoga?

Congratulations! Yes, you can practice modified yoga poses, provided your doctor is okay with having you practice yoga during your pregnancy. Please check with your health care provider. Many doctors recommend yoga for pregnancy, as it helps with breathing and opening the hips for an easier, natural delivery. Poses will need to be modified for you to accommodate your pregnancy. There are certain poses that should be avoided during pregnancy, and some which are acceptable for the first trimester but not the later stages. It is important that you tell your instructor that you are pregnant, as not all pregnancies are visible especially in the early stages.  If your doctor has imposed any limitations on your movement, you must convey this to the instructor before the class begins.  Several of the Moonflower Yoga students, with their doctor’s approval, have enjoyed a great yoga practice until right before delivery and had healthy babies.

I’m feeling very stressed and my doctor recommends meditation and yoga. Which classes should I try?

Meditation is an absolutely wonderful tool to help you relax. We have a fabulous online guided meditation class every Monday at 7 PM which you can do from the comfort of home in a reclining position or in your favorite chair.   On a monthly basis, Moonflower Yoga is pleased to offer a very special Evening of Guided Meditation and Relaxation with Bhante Sujatha, the loving kindness monk, and no prior experience is needed for this evening.   On the last Wednesday of the month, we have a Yoga Nidra evening with Jackie where you recline at home listening to the very soothing guided yoga nidra meditation. We also have a lovely Restorative Yoga and Poetry night on a monthly basis with Melinda.   Info on these workshops is on the “Workshops” tab above.  When the studio doors reopen, the Reiki programs at Moonflower Yoga will resume, and you could consider this.  Click on the “Reiki” tab for additional info.  In addition to meditation, yoga is fantastic for helping you be “in the present moment” and providing breathing tools and muscle relaxation.  Click on the “Schedule” tab above for a list of all the activities.

How much is a class?

We have different prices depending on the length of the class.  Click on the “Pricing” tab for additional information about the class prices.  If your budget is limited, try a great 30-minute online class for just $12 per class.

Please note there are NO membership agreements and NO recurring contractual payments at Moonflower Yoga.   You can just book a single class from the Schedule tab above and enjoy a great yoga class!

Workshops are generally 1 – 2 hours, so the pricing for these activities is different than a standard yoga or meditation class and priced accordingly. In the description of the workshop on the “Workshop” tab, or “Descriptions” tab, you will see the price.

You can register for any single, available, non-package class, workshop, or event from the “Schedule” tab above. Double click on the activity you want, and then follow the simple registration and payment steps and you are all set!

I don’t have a PayPal account. Can I still register online for a class?

Yes! You do NOT need a PayPal account in order to register for an individual class on the schedule. PayPal is a very well-established, financial company that will securely handle the financial transaction. They accept all major credit cards. If you do have a PayPal account, you can use this also to purchase a class or workshop rather than a credit card. PayPal will send you an email confirmation of your financial transaction.

How do I know I am registered when I booked a class online?

Once you have successfully registered online, you will receive TWO email confirmations: one from Moonflower Yoga confirming your reservation and one from PayPal confirming your financial transaction. You must complete both the registration information and the payment information. If you only complete the registration screen with no payment, you are NOT registered for the class or workshop, and a spot is NOT being held for you!!

For online yoga classes, after you purchase your class on the Schedule tab, you will receive a separate, second email which is the Zoom invitation link with the info you will need to join the online class.

Do you have parking?

Yes! There is a parking lot for the studio behind the building on Wilson Avenue. Park your car in the lot, walk around the front to Bellmore Avenue, and come up the porch steps. Look for the wicker furniture on the porch. You can also park on Bellmore Avenue.

Do I wear shoes in a studio yoga class?

NO! You should be barefoot when practicing yoga to give you a good grip on your yoga mat.  When the studio doors reopen for classes, all shoes will remain in the hallway in the designated area for shoes. The studio floor is immaculately clean and does not contain any dirt from street shoes. It is important to be barefoot during your yoga class so that you can feel the ground with your feet which gives you the best balance, particularly during standing poses. If you are attending a meditation class or workshop, you can wear socks.

Do I need a yoga mat to attend a yoga class?

You will need a yoga mat for your yoga practice whether at home or during a hybrid yoga class in person at the studio.  Yoga mats provide “stickiness” to the bottoms of your feet to give you a better foot connection during standing poses.  They also provide cushioning for your knees or back during a yoga class.  Moonflower Yoga sells a wonderful variety of yoga mats from HuggerMugger, a leading yoga supplier. These are made in the USA and are of excellent quality. They also come in two thickness levels, and students with knee or back issues might prefer the slightly thicker mat which provides more cushioning. The mats come in a great variety of colors. Moonflower Yoga also sells mat bags to keep your yoga mat from getting dirty.  If you would like to purchase a yoga mat, Moonflower Yoga sells yoga mats which are available for curbside pick up during the coronavirus period.  Just send us an email to moonfloweryoga@optimum.net to let us know how we can help you, and we can send you pictures and pricing.  For those attending a hybrid yoga class in person at the studio, you must bring your own yoga mat to the class, or you can purchase a yoga mat at the studio prior to attending the hybrid yoga class; please allow a few extra minutes to complete this transaction before the start of the class.

Do I need to bring any props or anything else to a studio yoga class?

As COVID is still a threat, and in an effort to keep everyone safe, there will be NO sharing of props at this time.  If you are attending a hybrid yoga class in person, you will need to bring your own yoga mat to the class. You may also wish to bring a small blanket for support under the knees or under your head when you are reclining.  A yoga block which can be disinfected after each use can be loaned to you for an in-person hybrid class if you do not have a yoga block.

It’s my first time at your studio. Is there anything else that I need to know?

Welcome! We look forward to meeting you. Moonflower Yoga is different than most yoga studios. Our studio classes are semi-private in nature so that our class size is small.  If this is your first time at the studio attending a class, please arrive approximately 15 minutes early to complete initial registration paperwork and to meet your instructor. Please click on the “Descriptions” tab for info about these protocols for attending a hybrid yoga class.

Do I need to register in advance and how do I know if a class is available or if it is sold out?

There is no size limitation for attending a yoga or meditation class online or for an online workshop or online Club event.  All are welcome.   You still need to register in advance for the online class by selecting the class you would like to attend from the “Schedule” tab and following the simple registration and payment steps.  When we receive your paid online registration, you will receive a Zoom invitation email with the info you need to join us for the class.  Please register at least 60 minutes before the class time to allow sufficient time for your reservation to be processed.

For in-person hybrid yoga classes, you also need to register in advance.  There are NO “walk ins”.  The physical space is intentionally small to give you personal attention with a maximum of 4 in-person spots for the hybrid yoga classes.  Classes do sell out, and you must register in advance for the hybrid yoga class to make sure a space is available. You can register in advance by selecting the available class that you want from the “Schedule” tab above.    If you are interested in attending a hybrid yoga class in person please also click on the “Descriptions” tab above for very important information about attending a hybrid yoga class.

Do you have gift certificates?

Yes! Gift certificates are available in any denomination or can be for a specific number of classes. We also offer periodic gift certificate promotions that include a free yoga class when purchasing specific gift certificates. You can purchase your gift certificate in person at the Moonflower Yoga studio. It is beautifully packaged in a nice bag – all ready for the giving! Live out of town?  We can email a customized gift certificate and send it to you or to the recipient of the gift certificate, whichever you prefer. Call us at 1 (516) 557 2206 for further info on purchasing gift certificates or send an email to us at moonfloweryoga@optimum.net with info on how we can help you.  And during this coronavirus period, we can send you the gift certificate electronically and arrange an electronic, cashless payment.   We can also do a curbside pickup of a gift certificate.

Which credit cards do you accept?

If you are registering in person at the Moonflower Yoga studio, we accept MasterCard, Visa, or Discover cards.  We do not accept American Express cards at the studio.  If you are registering online from the Schedule tab using the PayPal feature, PayPal accepts all major credit cards.  If you have a PayPal account, you can also use this when paying online for a single class.  PayPal does NOT charge you a processing fee for purchasing a class or workshop at Moonflower Yoga.
